Discovering the Community of Amaru

Day 1: Cultural and Archaeological Exploration

Morning

• 8:00 AM: Pickup from your hotel and transfer to Pisac.

• Visit to the Archaeological Site of Pisaq: Exploration of the impressive Inca temple.

• Transfer to the Community of Amaru (40 minutes by car).

• Reception: Warm welcome with typical flowers and community presentation.

Afternoon

• Cultural Activities: Explanation of daily activities, community work, and cultural preservation.

• Ethnobotanical Tour: Collection of plants for natural dyeing and experience in shearing Andean camelids.

• Dyeing and Weaving Process: Observation of wool spinning and dyeing, as well as the making of garments.

• Mystery of Iconography: Discovery of the iconography of flat weavings.

Traditional Lunch: Enjoy a lunch prepared by the community.

Evening

• Free Time: Opportunity to explore on your own or participate in additional activities.

• Dinner and Rest: Traditional dinner and accommodation in rural lodging in the town of Pisaq.

Day 2: Ethnobotany and Farewell

• Farewell and Return to Cusco.

Location

The Amaru farming community is located at 3,875 meters above sea level in the district of Pisac, province of Calca in the department of Cusco. It is one of the four communities that manage the Potato Park.

Textiles

The production of handmade textiles is an important activity in the community. The community receives foreign visitors who come to see and learn about the Andean textiles made by the artisan weavers, and they learn about the weaving process, from dyeing with plants to the production of wool.
