1 - Cusco - Lares Hot Springs - Huacahuasi

Depart Cusco at 6 am and follow the Sacred Valley Road to the hot springs, arriving in time for lunch. After lunch you will start your trek from the hot springs following an old Inca trail along the Huacahuasi River. 

2 - Huacahuasi - Ipsaycocha - Patacchanta

Leaving Huacahuasi, the trek passes through more local villages with the majestic snow-capped Apu Pitusiray in the background. After passing the 4,800m mark, the descent winds through Lake Ipsaycocha and continues through the valley to Patacchanta. From here we go to Machu Picchu. 

3 - Machu Picchu

Trekking and Exploration At the end of the trek we arrive in Ollantaytambo where we have two options. 

Option 1: Stay in Ollantaytambo and go to Aguas Calientes the next day.

Option 2: Go directly to Aguas Calientes after the trek. This option involves a long last day and another busy day, but both options are available. 

It is possible to hike Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu mountain, prior reservation.

Day 1: Cusco | Lares and Wacahuasi

• The adventure begins in the town of Lares in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. In Lares, visitors will have a few hours to relax in the local hot springs. Then, they will prepare their backpacks to start the hike. The first stretch is short. There will be a stop at the Vilcabamba bridge where the cooking team will have lunch ready. After lunch, the hike continues uphill through the mountains. After approximately 10 kilometers, we will arrive at the Wacahuasi campsite. Here, we can visit the village of the same name where a group of locals will teach cultural aspects of the area. Back at the campsite, we will have dinner and rest in the campsites equipped to withstand the cold of the area.

Day 2: Wacahuasi | Abra C’asa Pasa and Punta Toro

• The second day begins very early with breakfast at the campsite.
• Then, we continue the ascent to the highest point of the trek: the Abra C’asa Pasa located at 4,500 meters above sea level.
• At Abra C’asa Pasa, tourists will enjoy the breathtaking mountain scenery where they can also see llamas and alpacas. A short distance away, tourists can also appreciate the Auroray Cocha lagoon. In this impressive landscape, we will stop for lunch. After lunch, we will continue the route, this time descending until we reach the Punta Toro campsite. There will be time to view the Yura Cocha lagoon. Then, we will have dinner and rest in the camp prepared for the night. 

Day 3: Punta Toro | Yanahuara and Aguas Calientes

• The third day begins very early with breakfast at the Punta Toro camp.
• Then, the hike resumes descending through mountain landscapes until reaching the town of Yanahuara. In Yanahuara, it is time to say goodbye to the cooks and porters as the tourists will take transport to the town of Ollantaytambo.
• In Ollantaytambo, visitors will board the tourist train that will take them (a nearly 2-hour trip) to the famous town of Aguas Calientes.
• Here, they will have lunch in a local restaurant. In the evening, visitors have the option to enjoy the hot springs of Aguas Calientes (not included in the tour). After dinner (at a local restaurant), they will spend the night in a tourist accommodation. 

Day 4: Aguas Calientes | Machu Picchu and Return to Cusco

• The final day begins early with breakfast at the tourist accommodation. Next, visitors will board the buses that will take them to the entrance gate of Machu Picchu.
• In Machu Picchu, visitors will tour the archaeological site accompanied by the tour guide (the same one who has been with them for the four days).
• The tour lasts approximately 3 hours and includes free time to take photos.
• After the visit, we return by bus to Aguas Calientes. In the town, tourists will have free time to explore the area, shop for souvenirs, or simply have lunch (not included in the tour). Finally, tourists will board the train to Ollantaytambo. From there, a tourist transport will take them back to the city of Cusco.

• Departure Detail: Pickup service for passengers from downtown areas.

  • If the client is staying at an Airbnb, the meeting point will be Plaza Regocijo.

• Return Detail: Return to the departure point.

Checklist Trekking to Lares

• A backpack.
• Rain poncho (much more practical than a raincoat).
• Light and warm clothes (there are big temperature differences on the trail!).
• A pair of rain pants and another pair of light pants.
• Trekking shoes and sandals (to ventilate your feet when resting).
